Welcome To Calico Aster Middle School – Calico Aster, North Carolina
Calico Aster Middle School, located on 1st Street, off of Education Drive, serves as the only public middle school in Calico Aster County.
What sets Calico Aster Middle apart is its reputation, security, and civic legacy. Though it serves a modest 248 students, the school operates like a high-security magnet academy, surrounded by metal gates, surveillance systems, and guarded each morning by a dedicated School Resource Officer. The design feels more like a base facility than a school — a nod to the city’s military roots and the political influence that shapes it.
The campus features a looped private road connected to 1st Street—used for student drop-off and staff entry. At the end of the private road, there is a gate that’s controlled by the school SRO during student drop-off and pick-up hours, while traffic entering and exiting the private road is directed by a Calico Aster Police officer on 1st Street, which connects to Education Drive. There are two main parking lots: one in front for visitors and staff, and a second in the rear near the gymnasium.
Superintendent Chamberlain Massey, in an effort to enhance school security, requires all personnel to wear school ID badges at all times inside the school. Personnel visiting the school can have a visitor badge issued by the school Secretary, Stacey Covington, in the office. All personnel visiting the school during Pick-up and drop-off hours must display their ID or school badge to the SRO at the main school gate.
